Dobbs Leaves CNN

Just saw this off of Drudge. I don't have a lot of input beyond what is in the article. I'm not that much of a television news watcher and I know Dobbs has made some attacks on the right before. So the RTP interest might be limited, but, at least he was willing to go after stories that CNN "didn't think was news." At least Dobbs can recognize when there's a demand for news from the public irregardless what a media exec thinks. I personally don't care too much about the birther movement, but I respect Dobb's decision to fight internally over it.

Obviously the immigration issue should perk Bud-D's ears up.

One issue in the article, unrelated to Dobbs, that I thought was interesting was CNN's insistence that they are attempting to strike a "middle of the road" stance on news. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't CNN tanking compared to MSNBC and especially Fox? Is this indicative that America is moving in the direction of getting their news from partisan sources?

  1. I think it is a sign. It might also indicate that which ever political party is in power is going to have the worst media coverage. The liberal news is boring because all it does is praise. The conservative news is exciting right now because it is on the attack. It was the same way when Bush was in office except the liberal news was on the offensive.

  2. (and still Fox news had higher ratings ;)

  3. Newspapers and the major medial outlets are in trouble, they are not getting the ratings. I think it is interesting that the CEO of GE owns, I think NBC or one of them, well GE stands to benefit from cap and trade and other government programs, that might have something to do with their left leaning news coverage.

The White House started a war with Fox News. The WH tried to shut them out of an interview with the pay czar guy but the other news companies stood up to the WH and said that if Fox does not get an interview then nobody else will interview the pay czar.

The fact is that if it weren't for the favorable news coverage from the MSM, Obama would not be President.

My unoriginal thought is that the government will eventually control our source of information. There are some interesting developments in terms of the powers to regulate the internet--emergencies powers like the President being able to shut the internet down. The long term desire of the left to regulate talk radio, Mark Floyd. There was talk about bailing out the newspapers. A totalitarian system of control is being set up. All it will take to implement it is a serious emergency and a complacent and ignorant people for this system to come about.

  4. On the point of Immigration, "NEW YORK – The integration of the United States with Canada and Mexico, long deemed by many as little more than a fanciful 'conspiracy theory,' was actually an idea promoted by the Council on Foreign Relations and sold to President Bush as a means of increasing commerce
and business interests throughout North America, according to a top Canadian businessman."

I don't know why people have to ascribe 'conspiracy theory' to this stuff. This and the desire of both the Left and Right to gain a loyal voter base is what this immigration thing is all about.

  5. Yeah, Dobbs was pretty much the last strong ratings puller that CNN had left and he just walked. Great news! I'm not totally sure where Dobbs' politics lies. I think he's kind of a take-on-all-comers type guy like O'Reilly. Oh, and FYI, even before Dobbs left CNN, CNN was LAST in the cable news ratings. And you can add CNN, MSNBC, and Headline News ratings together and they still don't match Fox's ratings. Fox dominates cable news. This will only make them stronger. What Dobbs' move is next is what is interesting. CNN may be entering precarious territory, inshallah.

From the NYT: “some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem solving as well as to contribute positively to the great understanding of the issues of our day.”

“I’m considering a number of options and directions,” Mr. Dobbs added

  6. Hmmm. I dont even know who Dobbs is. I know the name and probably would recognize his face though.

I heard that MLK was a womanizer and shouldnt have been partying at that motel in the first place. Karma got to the sinner. I just thought it was interesting to hear that he drank and had affairs with other women. Still a good man, but interesting to hear that. Dont know the credibility of it though.

  7. I see Dobbs is now being advertised on Fox. So I guess he's made the jump. All independent thinkers are scurrying from the other news services to Fox.

  8. Yeah, I just saw Dobbs on O'Reilly. He compared Obama to the devil and said he has done a horrible job as a president. And Dobbs was CNN's prime time guy? Wow.

  9. John Stossel made the jump to Fox too. I don't know how comparing Obama to the devil does any good. It makes the opposition look stupid.

  10. Let me rephrase it, he was asked,"Is Obama the devil?" and Dobbs laughed and said no, but treated it as a legitimate question and made it sound like it was debatable.

  11. Final word: it looks like CNN paid Dobbs $8 million to go away!
