I'm not sure if this is the seventh edition of "This Is Rock" but it'll have to do.
I have always loved the Dead Kennedys. I don't just like them for the funny lyrics either, they have some good shit that has a lot of passion. Jello Biafra puts on quite a show.

Good choice. I guess I've said this a million times: best song slamming liberals ever. Even though Jello Biafra is a flaming leftist.
ReplyDelete"So you been to school/For a year or two/And you know you’ve seen it all..."
The controversial N-word use in
"Braggin' that you know
How the niggers feel cold
And the slums got so much soul"
But the point is good. And when they wrote it, it wasn't quite as outrageous a thing to write as it would be now.
"Now you can go where people are one
Now you can go where they get things done"...Obama would lead us there if he could.
Another thing about the Dead Kennedys, which was rare for Punk bands in the early days, is that they were great musicians.
ReplyDeleteI could not catch the lyrics in the video above. Nigger is not controversial among the black community. They often refer to each other as "what up nigger" or "my nigger".
ReplyDeleteThe lyric Bud-D is referring to illustrates that pop culture can disseminate a certain message. The movie "Avatar" is another prime example. It seems that conservative messages are not widely found in pop culture or at least not to the extent that liberal messages are.
I got my first drill coming up. My sgt said to go ahead and show up in my old Marine Corps cammies. Lol. Maybe I should walk in with gum in my mouth, and shades over my eyes while I talk on my cell phone.
ReplyDeleteThis is the last time I make any jokes about the Guard. Some platoon members might one day check this blog out.
Almost sounds like the Air Force!
