This is Rock

I never really paid too much attention to ZZ Top. I knew they made some decent music but I have developed much more respect thanks to youtube. I came across this video, along with others, from a show in 1980 in Germany. Their image and stage performance is pretty awesome.

  2. Imagine how much more advance the world would be if free markets existed. I get the point that the guy is trying to make, but at the same time there are attempts to define down our expectations of life and our standard of living by those that have the power to shape people's view of the world. I have come across articles touting the benefits of a 24 hr work week, the advantages of being unemployed, Americans are deciding to rent as opposed to own a home, and articles that overall trying to lower our expectations of life. And then there is the environmental movement that is trying to get people to lower their standard of living and to do with less in the name of saving the planet: using less energy, driving smaller less safe cars, using less water with low flow shower heads that don't give people a good shower, doing away with chemicals that kill bed bugs leading to the remergence of bed bug infestations, and etc.

In the end our generation is going to have a rude wake up call as their standard of living in going way down in the future due to economic circumstances: less economic opportunity, no retirement, less disposable income and an overall lowered standard of living.

  3. I can hear in the background of the ZZ top video the echoes of a chisel and hammer chipping away at the foundation of our free society.

  4. I never saw them live, but they've always been known for putting on a good show. I don't understand why more guitarists don't do grooving moves on stage. It frustrates me as a drummer to see the guitarists just standing there as I would so totally be posing awesomely if I could.

ZZ Top makes the blues rockin'! My favorite: Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers.

The only thing I don't like about ZZ Top is their drummer, Frank Beard, who always looks bored to death to be there, while the guys out front Billy Gibbons (Guitar), Dusty Hill (Bass) are working their butts off.

I prefer older ZZ (from the '70's) including the song you post rather than the newer ('80's) ZZ.
